We want to be up front with how we manage this class so you know your rights and responsibilities as a student.
Missing class
Please do your best to be on time and present for class. If you are going to be late or miss class, please inform the facilitator.
It is important that you do your best to attend all class sessions. If you miss a week, you are responsible for reviewing what you missed by the next session. You’ll be able to do this by connecting with your classmates and through the materials sent out following each session.
More than 2 absences will be reviewed with your facilitator and may result in:
- Your removal from the class. Please communicate up front with your facilitator any time you may miss a class.
- Having to retake the class to move forward to the next class.
Leaving/stepping away from a class
We get it. Life happens. Things come up. Our plates become overflowing before we know it. If you need to step away from class for any reason, Campfire is happy to pass along any farewell words you might want to share with your classmates.
If you sign up for the class and step away more than 30 days prior to the first class, you have the right to a refund. However, because of the time and energy spent to fill a course seat, we cannot offer a refund if you step away less than 30 days prior to the first class.
We would need to ask you to leave the class if:
- You come to class consistently late, or unprepared, e.g. by not completing homework or coming prepared to rehearsals (not every class includes homework or rehearsals).
- Your actions or words threaten to disrupt the class by creating a hostile environment or making fellow students feel threatened.
- You repeatedly break the norms outlined at the beginning of class.
- You recreate the class, trainings, or any of our intellectual property without written consent.
Cancelling class
From time to time class must be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances like inclement weather or an instructor falling ill. We make sure that you get the instruction that you need to continue through the course.
- If we must cancel a class, we will send you a notice at least 12 hours in advance to the email address you used to sign up for the class.
- In case more than one class is cancelled, we will determine, alongside the students, if there will be a make-up class, virtual class online, or another way of making sure we make-up the missed class.
Accommodations
If you seek any accommodations that will support your learning, please contact us at hello@cmpfr.com and we will do everything we can to support you (examples include receiving class slides in advance, extra time for class activities, fidgets or other tools to help maintain focus, difficulty using stairs, etc).
Using Class Materials
Each student is encouraged by Campfire to utilize the narrative-creation skills learned from Campfire in their personal or professional activities. However, students may not use any of their training by Campfire to compete with Campfire, in connection with teaching of storytelling, narrative creation skills, public speaking, or group dialogue facilitation.
Class norms
We set these ground rules for our classes in order to create a safe space for the vulnerable act of storytelling. Because this space is so important, students who violate these norms may be asked to leave their course.
- Give grace – We believe that each of us is doing the best we can and that we are never done growing.
- Be present – We put phones away (or let us know if there is a need to have it handy). We treat each others’ time, energy, and vulnerability with respect.
- Challenge by choice – We won’t put you in a position that is going to be detrimental to you.
- Honor the stories you hear – We listen to understand. We listen with confidentiality.
- Trust the process & ask for what you need – We designed this class with a great deal of intention but everyone needs something different. Please let us know if you need any clarifications, accommodations, or additional support to succeed.
- We’ve got your back – We celebrate one another and never leave anyone behind.
