A 6-week class that’s 25% story and 75% public speaking
Storytelling is a skill we can continuously explore. This 6-week class is an opportunity to build on the Intro to Storytelling fundamentals. You will deepen your storytelling skills so that you can better apply them in your personal and professional life.
The next Advanced Storytelling starts
Sunday, March 8th
The benefits of taking Advanced Storytelling:
* Gain a deep set of skills on public speaking and using story in talks
* Create a moving, personal talk ready-to-be-delivered at a Campfire
* Receive increased access to the Campfire experts and faculty
* Have a fully produced podcast episode of your story to share with the world on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher and anywhere else folks listen to podcasts
* High-quality photos of you looking like a badass on stage for memories and social media
* Deepening relationships with students who were in your Intro class or meet new friends from other Intro classes
Session 1: Class foundations
We’ll get to know each other a bit (we have actually good icebreakers, promise) then we’ll cover the structure of the class, review essential concepts from Intro, and explore the season theme.
Session 2: First draft
Sometimes, you’ve just got to dive in and do the thing. And that’s what we’ll do. Create your story outline through a guided, hands-on rapid writing activity. Your nerves might kick in. You might even sweat a little. We swear it will pay off.
Session 3: Intentional stories and finding our baseline
What the heck is it you want to say? And why do you want to say it? Explore your intentions behind the story you want to tell, and how to leverage what you already have within you to tell say it the way you intend.
Session 4: Building your talk
Work independently to utilize the skills you’ve gained so far to align your talk with your intentions. Faculty will be with you to consult with along the way. Of course, we would never send you out on stage unprepared.
Session 5: Peer workshop and gauging our impact
Practice your story with your peers. Practice giving and receiving feedback with grace. Practice patience. Check in with yourself and your classmates to assess whether your intentions match your impact.
Sometimes we need a little hand holding when we learn a new skill. That’s why we provide a session of tailored, individual attention with our Faculty. We give you the time and space to work through questions, rehearse your talk, and explore ways to build up your confidence.
Session 6: Final rehearsal
We’ll get together for a group rehearsal. Held one week before your Capstone night, this will be a test run for the real deal.
Capstone at the Campfire
Invite 1-2 of guests of your choice to bear witness to the results of your creative work. Light refreshments provided.
Capstone at the Campfire
Step up to the mic at a special night of stories told by graduates of the Campfire Advanced Storytelling class. This is the public capstone experience of your coursework and a crucial component of solidifying your training.
“I learned how to organize my stories, and find a voice and boldness in sharing them.”
Build public speaking skills
Advanced Storytelling builds off of the foundational Intro class by digging deeper into your public speaking skills. We prepare you for any public speaking you might do in class and in the future.
“The most important thing I learned was how to structure a story and add detail in a way that makes it interesting and comprehensible to the audience.”
Your own podcast episode
While you are telling your story in front of a live audience, we will record it for the Campfire at Home podcast. You will be able to revisit this special moment and share with those who were unable to be there in person.
“Storytelling is a tool to bring people together. I will continue to craft narratives to build community, and offer personal perspectives to expand ideas and shift perceptions.”
